Jones coming to promote NFL Network
The two-year fight between Time Warner Cable and the NFL Network is coming to Austin today.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will be in town to promote the network, which has exclusive rights to carry eight NFL games and is charging cable providers extra to show them.
Some companies have anted up, including Grande Communications, whose CEO will be at today's event with Jones.
But Time Warner, the dominant provider in Central Texas and other parts of the state, says the network wants too much money for games that used to be part of the regular NFL package and is holding the line. It started nflbadcall.com to tell its side of the story.
Barring a last-minute agreement, many Cowboys fans won't get to see the Nov. 29 Dallas-Green Bay game as well as a Dec. 22 Dallas-Carolina game and a Dec. 13 Houston-Denver game.
No talks are under way, although Time Warner says it's open to a deal right up to kickoff.
Some AMD workers to move in early
Earlier this year, Advanced Micro Devices postponed the big move to its new Southwest Austin campus until early 2008. But now some engineers will take possession of their new digs just before Christmas.
An engineering building is finished, and workers are installing the cubicles and other office furniture.
Top executives will have to wait until April, when their building is completed.
